Administrative Registration Configurations

Currently, Schools, Departments, and select Programs have set Academic Administration settings and rules in place that guide student registration within Vergil. These settings comprise of Registration Unit Rules, Central Class Configurations, and Academic Calendar settings. They allow you to efficiently establish your students' registration capabilities, your course offerings, and academic timelines.

Managed directly by the Registrar Office, these settings ensure consistency and compliance across the institution - Any inquiries should be directed to [email protected].

Academic Registration Configurations

Academic Registration Setting: Unit Rules
Function: These settings directly impact the students registered under your school, department, or program. They govern the number of classes, credits, and waitlists your students can enroll in, as well as whether your students can register/cross-register for classes as P/D/F during the Registration period. These settings can be configured at a School, department, Academic Plan Line, or Student Group level.
Impacted Feature/Population: Students enrolled in your School, Department, Program.

Academic Registration Setting: Central Class Configurations
Function: These settings play a direct role in the courses and classes mounted under your school and department in Course Management. They allow you to manage whether your classes have waitlists, and whether students cross-registering into your classes can opt to take them as P/D/F. With Vergil Student Registration, you can manage whether students can electronically submit requests to enroll in your courses and designate instructors or department administrators to approve those requests. You can also set the number of auditors that can take your courses. These settings can be set at the School or Department level.

Academic Registration Setting: Academic Calendar
Function: These settings influence your school's timeline for the academic year. Due to its impact on billing and other institutional functions across the institution, the Academic Calendar for all the schools typically align with the Columbia University Academic Calendar. However, this feature allows schools to create new Subterms tailored to specific programs and make them visible to students.
